Aeolus Dive Site

aeolus

A 459-foot-long ship

The Aeolus dive site is a popular wreck diving destination located off the coast of North Carolina in the United States. The site is named after the USS Aeolus, a Navy repair ship that was intentionally sunk in 1988 to create an artificial reef and diving site.

The Aeolus is a 459-foot-long ship that lies at a depth of approximately 70 feet. The ship is mostly intact, and divers can explore the various decks and compartments, including the engine room, galley, and crew quarters. The ship’s superstructure rises up to within 40 feet of the surface, making it accessible to both novice and experienced divers.

In addition to the wreck of the Aeolus, the site is also home to a diverse array of marine life, including large schools of fish, sea turtles, and various species of sharks. The warm waters of the Gulf Stream bring in a variety of tropical fish, making the site a popular destination for underwater photography.

The Aeolus dive site is considered one of the best wreck diving locations in the United States and attracts divers from all over the world. However, because of the depth of the wreck and the potential for strong currents in the area, it is recommended that only experienced divers attempt to dive the site.
