Atlas Dive Site

Atlas

A cargo ship sunk During WWII

The Atlas dive site is located off the coast of North Carolina in the United States, near the town of Morehead City. It is considered one of the best wreck diving sites in the world, and attracts divers from all over the globe.

The Atlas is a cargo ship that was sunk during World War II by a German U-boat in March of 1942. The ship was carrying supplies and equipment for the war effort, including ammunition, medical supplies, and food. The sinking of the Atlas was a significant loss for the Allied forces, but fortunately, the crew was able to escape before the ship went down.

Today, the Atlas wreck lies in about 115 feet (35 meters) of water, and is covered in marine life, including schools of fish, sea turtles, and other creatures. Divers who explore the wreck can see the remains of the cargo that the ship was carrying, as well as the remnants of the ship itself, including the bow, stern, and propeller.

The site is considered an advanced dive due to its depth, and divers are required to have appropriate training and experience to explore the wreck safely. However, for those who are prepared, diving the Atlas is an unforgettable experience that offers a unique glimpse into history and the underwater world.
